Christmas Day, December 25th, 1918.

We all attended service in the Cathedral, & heard a sermon from the Dean. Frank & I sate together in the stalls, and together received the Sacrament. After lunch we walked round Christ Church Meadow & Magdalen Walk. There came to dinner Hassall and his wife, Col: Stenning & his wife, and Balfour Davey, a cousin of mine hostess who is a flying man. We had much interesting conversation after dinner.

This is the first Christmas since my Ordination on 1887 – 31 years since – that I have not preached and (save for the diaconal year) celebrated the Holy Communion.
