I wrote letters, and talked with Frank in the morning. We all went for a pleasant walk after lunch. The spires of Oxford seen against a brilliant sunset were extraordinarily beautiful. After tea I wrote more letters, including a long one to Major. We dined quietly, & afterwards I read an extremely clever & amusing piece by Traill, called "The Israelitish Question as seen in the Canaanitish Press". It was designed as a satire on the Bulgarian atrocities. After the ladies had retired, Frank and I talked together for some while before going to bed. On Christmas Eve the sense of loss created by his boy's death is more than ever keen.
