1561st day

Ella and I went to Shrewsbury by train, and thence to Pitchford by motor. We lunched in the Vicarage, & then went to the parish church, where Evensong was read, and I gave an address. Then I consecrated an addition to the churchyard. This function ended, we had tea in Pitchford Hall, a wonderful timbered house of the 15th century, the property of General Grant. His mother, a wonderful old lady, died but a fortnight since. We went to Condover Hall where we were the guests for the night of Mr & Mrs Fielden, very pleasant people.

This day brought the great news that the War had ended with the signing of the Armistice. The terms express the total surrender of Germany. Everywhere flags & enthusiasm.
