The flags are everywhere flying in honour of American Independence. This is a notable "sign of the times". The moral is pointed in the "Times" where the Abp. of York contributes an article on the subject. Mr Mitton came to see me about Ordination. He is the grandson of the late Master of Sherburn Hospital, and son of the Mineral Agent of that Institution. He remained to lunch, after which I presided at a meeting in the Cathedral Library convened in the interest of the Missions to Seamen. I occupied myself in making preparations for next Sunday's sermon, about Their Majesties' Silver Wedding.
