Ella and I received the Communion at 8 a.m. Watkins celebrated. The whole Chapter communicated.
I ran through the two 16th Century Scottish documents, the Book of Common Order 1556, and the First Book of Discipline 1560, and in neither did I observe the word "protestant". Is it therefore to be concluded that the Scottish Church is not Protestant? Yet no "argument" for the Catholic character of the C. of E. is more popular with our Ritualists than the fact that the word "Protestant" does not appear in the Prayer Book!
I notice that the "Times" military correspondent suggests that the Italian débâcle may be due to the infection of the troops with the revolutionary folly, which has already disarmed Russia. If this be the case, the gravity of the incident is greatly increased.
