I received the Holy Communion in the Cathedral at 8 a.m. Then I attended Mattins, after which I wrought α) an obituary notice on Addis, who was killed in a street accident last Tuesday, & sent it to his brother, who had asked for it. η) a short article on "The policy of the Single Front" in response to a request from the Editor of the "Church Family Newspaper". George came, & arranged the newly bound books for me, & stayed to lunch. Gilbert Darwin came to lunch, & afterwards walked with me. Scarcely had I returned to the Deanery before Gilbert Simpson and Alice Barwick arrived. Before going to bed, I read aloud to Ella the Prime Minister's speech on Restrictions of Imports. There can be no doubt whatever that the Government desires to create an impression of grave peril in the public mind.
