Pearce went off to Newcastle after breakfast in order to inspect Chaplains, whatever that may mean. Mr Soltau–Simmons and a female friend lunched here. To dine came Major & Mrs Lowe, and J. G. Wilson. The air–raid was comparatively harmless, yet 7 people are reported to be killed, and 17 wounded, at Whitley Bay. At the height from which the bombs are thrown it must be impossible for the raiders to take any aim. There is a gambling chance that they may hit something important. Hitherto the chances have favoured us, but how long will this continue?
