226th day
A cold unpleasant day. I spent the whole morning in writing a letter to the "Times" on the proposal of Sir E. Clark as endorsed by the Bishop of Durham. It was not a very judicious proceeding, and nowise well performed. But I did not act thoughtlessly. The notion has been in my mind for some while that a protest ought to be made: & it continued to retain its hold ion me after the Holy Comn which I attended this morning in S. Gregory's chapel. After lunch I attended a meeting of the Organization Sub–Committee of the National Relief County Ctee. We had nothing to do except consider the case of finding employment for the Belgian Refugees. Afterwards I called to see poor old Wilson. Mary Scott arrived on a farewell visit.
