186th day

Mr Gaymer came to me at my request, and expounded to me his views as to the condition of the vaulting. He reiterates his assurance that, when the work which he is now engaged upon, has been completed, the cathedral will be as secure as possible. Colonel & Mrs Doyle & Major Ratcliffe came to lunch, and returned to tea. Also Canon Guest–Williams came to see me about the vacant living of Bossall in Yorkshire. He wishes on account of his wife, who has relations near by [sic], to be appointed! I could not but promise that I would put his name down for consideration.
