Ella and I attended the annual dinner of the National Service League at the Hotel Cecil. Lord Roberts presided: & I proposed the Toast of the evening – the National Service League. I made a speech of about half an hour's length, winding up with an eulogy on Bobs. He was evidently pleased. Lord Newton made a witty speech in proposing the Visitors: a New Zealander replied at somewhat excessive length.
