Monday, May 8th, 1911.

~~When we look unto the earth, then behold darkness and dimness of anguish, that I may use the words of the Prophet Esay: but when we look toward Heaven, then behold light breaking forth upon us, like the Eye–lids of the morning, & spreading its wings over the horizon of mankind sitting in darkness & the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.~~

At 11.30 I attended a meeting of my brethren in the Jerusalem Chamber to inspect the Copes.

At 3 p.m. I baptized a small screeching infant – Houghton Clayton Palmer – in St Margaret's: & afterwards walked with Ernest to the bookseller & ordered his music books.

At 8 p.m. my Shakspearians [sic] assembled, & began to read "Romeo & Juliet".

Mr Daltry arrived in the course of the afternoon to attend the S.P.G. conferences.

Cyril Hayward had some talk with me. He is a good lad.
