2nd Sunday in Lent, February 20th, 1910.
A beautiful morning after the tempest. There were 26 comts at 8 a.m. when I celebrated.
At Mattins there was a crowded church. The Speaker was in his place. Sitting beside Lord S. Aldwyn was the Bp. of Oxford. Old Lord Wolverhampton was there, & Captain Craig. I preached an old sermon on 'Rabbinism & Fraternity[']. The offertory exceeded £23.
About 2 p.m. another tempest of wind & rain came upon us, & raged with violence.
At 4 p.m. I went to St Margaret's, & there baptized two of my confirmation candidates –
- Emmie Louise Crowther, aged 23.
- Lionel Walter Box " 15.
There was a deluge of rain at Evensong, but none the less a considerable congregation gathered in St Margaret's. I preached on the difficult subject of 'Chastity'. The Offertory exceeded £4.
