12th Sunday after Trinity, August 29th, 1909.
There were very large congregations at all the services. Sherwood preached at 10 a.m. very simply & suitably. Lady Francis Balfour lunched here, & afterwards went to the Abbey. The Bishop of Winchester and Mrs Ryle were also there, & came in afterwards to tea. I was glad to introduce Addis to Bp. Ryle.
In the evening, Archdeacon Taylor from Southwark preached. He is ludicrously like his Bishop in voice, gesture, & manner. Afterwards he came in to supper.
