5thSunday after Easter, May 16th, 1909.

The weather is thunderous and rainy. It cleared up somewhat before service. I preached three times. 1. At Trinity Church. 2. At the Church of the Epiphany, Winchester. 3. At the Wellesley Ladies College.

The last was an interesting scene – 1000 young ladies with a few young men, 'rari nantes in gurgite vasto' [rare swimmers in troubled waters], formed my congregation.
