Good Friday, April 9th, 1909.
A very fine morning degenerated into something scarcely to be distinguished from a fog. There were but seven persons in S. Margaret's when I read the Ante–Comn service.
At Mattins there was a fair congregation. The Litany desk, presented by the Admiral, was used for the first time. I preached the sermon on 'The Pattern Death', which is included in the volume 'The Value of the Bible'.
Lady Craik called to see me in the course of the after–noon: and Raleigh came to say Goodbye. Marion & I walked in the Park. The ground was thick with children rioting in the sunshine.
At Evensong, the Precentor preached an excellent sermon of a frankly medieval type.
