Palm Sunday, April 4th, 1909.
A brilliant but rather cold morning. Knox celebrated at 8 a.m. when there were 35 commts. James & Maimie arrived from Scotland in time for breakfast.
There was a large congregation at 11 a.m. I think that some people may have come to look at an 'inhibited' preacher. My sermon was an old one, but a "Morning Post" reporter clearly suspected that it was topical. I celebrated the Holy Communion. There were 55 comts.
At Evensong the Church was thronged. I noticed Macmillan, the Abp's Chaplain, among the congregation. I preached an old sermon on the words of Judas: "To what purpose is this waste?"
No less than 17 at supper. James, Maimie, & their son, Raleigh, the Sub–Dean, Hine–Haycock, Anthony, Gilbert, Gilbert Box, Bob Bineham, Harold, Custard & his wife, Mary & Linetta.

On April 6th I sent in my Income Tax paper to "The Surveyor of Taxes Westr" as on p. 309.
On Tuesday, Merton & I went to the zoo with my new camera; and experimented on the beasts. I never saw the birds of prey looking better.
The week was filled & frittered away with futile attempts to clear up everything. The accumulations of dust everywhere were unspeakable.
