5th Sunday after Trinity, July 19th, 1908.
A dull & threatening morning. I celebrated at S. Margaret's at 8 a.m. There were but 17 commts, including a very devout "sister". We don't often get that type of devotion.
The Bishop of Massachusetts preached at Mattins, an extempore sermon but coherent, sensible, and well–delivered. His text was the Baptist's speech, "He must increase, I must decrease." In the course of his sermon he made a reference to Phillips Brooks.
Gow celebrated at midday. There were about 50 cts. Our party at lunch was large – Miss Lily Dennistoun, Miss Lister, another lady, Miss Boevey, Prof. Boevey, Cyril Merton, his brother Reginald, Harold, & Gilbert.
At 4 p.m. I baptized Sarah Lenon, a poor child from without the parish.
There was a good congregation at Evensong. I preached on 'The Criticism of Scruples', drawing that subject from Ezekiel, 33. 20.
