1st Sunday after the Epiphany, January 13th, 1907.

Bowlby preached well: he has taken on in rather a pronounced form the "Talbot mannerism", and this circumstance tended to make one restive, but undoubtedly he preached well. I celebrated the Holy Communion.

Newsome preached in S. Margaret's, and afterwards came to lunch. Frank and his wife with their son, Edward, a demure little lad of eleven, also lunched. Mrs Bowlby motored from Eton, and returned there after lunch.

I preached an old sermon in the afternoon on "Sincerity in Love": there was a large congregation in spite of the absence of the Choir–boys.

Two of the Rhodes scholars came to tea.

Bowlby read the lessons in S. Margaret's. There was a large congregation, many in trousers. I preached on the Gospel for the day.

Aylwin & Winifred came to supper. Albert brought in two of his friends.

Bowlby & I sate on talking till past midnight.
