2nd Sunday in Advent, December 9th, 1906.
Six years ago this day I preached my first Sermon in S. Margaret's as Rector. The reminiscence was in my mind as I went to the early service, where came but 17 communicants all told. The coldness of the weather and the epidemic of influenza may perhaps give some explanation of the smallness of the congregation at Mattins. It pleased me to see Lord St Aldwyn, Sir Henry Graham, Mr Rutt, and Montagu Smith in their places. I preached on "The value of the Bible".
Dr Tait brought his son to introduce him to me as a candidate for confirmation . The boy lunched here.
Mr Lough called in the course of the afternoon, and spoke freely of the efforts which Birrell & he were making to get their Nonconformist supporters to accept a compromise. Perks appears to be the most obstinate in opposition.
Miss Olga Montague also called: & Mr & Mrs Black.
At Evensong I preached on the "The Value of the Bible" dealing mainly with the New Testament.
