Whitsunday, May 31st, 1903.

After preaching in S. Margaret's at the Choral Celebration I travelled to Oxford in order to attend the Gaudy & College Meeting. But the question being raised whether my Fellowship had not already expired on May 26.[sic] that being the day of my re-election in 1896, I decided not to raise any issue, & so absented myself & fell at once into "quondamnation". On Tuesday afternoon (June 2nd) I finally left Oxford, heavy-hearted, to take up without mitigation the prosaic bondage of domestic life.
