Oliver Lodge (1851-1940; ODNB), physicist. Principal of University of Birmingham, 1900-19; a spiritualist, and president, Society for Psychical Research, 1901-4; his Raymond or Life and Death (1916) recorded his experiences of trying to reach his son (killed in Flanders, 1915) through seances.
