Another restless night. The weather keeps very hot. The doctor will not hear of my leaving the Nursing Home before the end of next week at the earliest, probably he will insist on completing full four weeks. Another 10 days confinement!

Sweet Lady, with the eyes of blue.

I've copied out these lines for you.

The lines are very wise and true

But not so wise and true as you:

And to the sapient prayers they make

There's one I'll add for mine own sake.

If yet again in pain I come

To enter in a Nursing Home,

Grant me, Good Lord, that Lady true

To help me with her Eyes of blue.

I had read to the Matron the lines transcribed from a Christmas Card on p. 51 of this Journal, & she begged for a copy. So I amused myself by copying them out, and sending them to her with the accompaniment of this doggerel.

Beyond a visit from the Archdeacon of Auckland during the afternoon, I had not distractions. In the course of the day I read through "Dr Thorne".
