I spent the day until 4 p.m. in the Commission lunching at the Athenaeum. I caught the 5.30 p.m. express at King's Cross, & travelled comfortably to Darlington, where William met me with the car. On the road I read through a novel by John Buchan in which Dr Johnson is brought into the plot very cleverly.
