I frittered away the entire morning in writing letters, among which was one to Professor Heawood, thanking him for an excellent paper on Prayer Book Revision. He, like all Evangelicals, appears to fasten attention on the specific proposals, without perceiving that, apart from such a restoration of discipline as could ensure obedience to the revised Prayer Book, these are worthless. Colonel & Mrs Low lunched here. Clayton and I motored into Durham, & I presided over a meeting of the Religious Education Board, & then had tea with the Bishop of Jarrow. I called on Cruickshank, and then returned to Auckland.
