I had evidently contracted a chill yesterday, & my pains grew upon me as the day advanced. Finally, I so far yielded to necessity as to cancel my engagement to dedicate the War–Memorial in S. Nicholas Churchyard. The Dean most generously undertook to officiate in my place.
