Saturday, July 26th, 1919.

I spent the day in bed very uselessly. Godfrey spent most of the afternoon with me, & so the time passed.

There was no correspondence of interest, & noting in the papers worth noting.

There seems reason for thinking that this insane strike of miners in Yorkshire is nearing an end with the invariable consequences – heavy loss to the country, & another victory to the disloyal agitators. The strike is notable as introducing into our Labour conflicts the sinister factor known as sabotage, i.e. the wilful wrecking of the machinery, so that the industry itself is in danger of being destroyed, & the very means of their livelihood imperilled by the strikers.
