I devoted another morning to the Anson Memoir, but the result was extremely disappointing. After lunch I took Ella and the Knights to Weobley, where Mrs Beattie showed us the vicarage & the church. The timbered–houses of the little town looked most charming. It is difficult to imagine a more attractive rural parish. Bannister & his wife came to dinner. After dinner Bannister & Knight discussed the syllabus for the Ordination candidates with me. They unite in assuring me that it is all, & perhaps more than all, that the present type of Ordinand can endure; but it seems to me quite lamentably low.
