I wrote letters, prepared a sermon, interviewed several parsons & Miss Atkinson, and walked with Bannister. Caröe went off after breakfast.

James sent me a note accepting my proposal that I should pay him a "retaining fee" of £50, as legal secretary, & that the clergy should have the benefit of his advice.
