Easter Eve, March 30th, 1918.

1335th day

I completed the sermons for tomorrow. After lunch Prebendary Hopton came to see me about some diocesan matters – a large, rather pompous man now retired from parochial work. I attended Evensong in the Cathedral, but did not wear my robes, preferring to sit in the back of the nave to hear the "Handel" music more advantageously. I made desperate efforts to clear up my table, & arrange my rapidly–accumulating letters on some intelligible principle, but with very little success.
