Sexagesima, February 3rd, 1918.

1280th day

I went to S. Paul's for Mattins, & to hear the Bishop of Exeter preach. The verger placed me conspicuously in the Archdeacon's stall, where I was exposed to the view of the congregation. I received the Holy Communion. After lunch, as I sate by the fire with the Archdeacon, "Fish Cecil" came in to make his peace with me. I was not very placable. Then Ella and I walked to Westr, where she went to make calls, and I to the club. There I exchanged a few words with Lord Bryce.
