This day also was wasted indoors. More letters, all kind save for one post–card. The number received now exceeds 300. I attended Evensong, and then wrote a number of letters. In view of the opposition that is developing against me, I thought it judicious to write civilly to those more important persons, especially bishops, who have congratulated me. In the "Morning Post" Lord Wolmer had a very rudely–expressed letter.
