892nd day

I received the Holy Communion in S. Gregory's Chapel at 8 a.m. Then I settled down for a morning's work on the Lecture. Gilbert Darwin came to lunch, and then I attended Evensong. I attended a meeting of the Church Defence Society's Committee. We had some discussion on a letter from the Secretary of the central Institution. In this document not only was the Report of the Archbishops' Committee advertised, but an offer of copies of Selborne's explanatory speech was made. This proceeding appearing to be utterly indefensible, we agreed to inquire by what authority it came to us.
