593rd day

I received the Holy Communion at 8 a.m. The Precentor was the celebrant. At 11 a.m. I presided at a Chapter Meeting. We had before us the case of Langley House, in which grave & dangerous defects have been disclosed, reflecting the utmost discredit on the contractor who was none other than our pious Dissenting Mayor, Gradon!! I undertook to write to him severely. Mr Philip R. Le Mesurier lunched here. He is a student, 20 years old, from St Chad's. He hails from Jersey, & so escapes the Service Act: but he ought to have volunteered. A gentle youth with dreamy eyes: rather restive at the "Catholic" tendencies of the college: & ingenuously enthusiastic over the Cathedral. I gave him a copy of 'Robertson'.
