The weather is distinctly warmer. I received the Holy Communion at 8 a.m. Dennett celebrated with some exstatic mannerisms which tried me. Why will the younger clergy run into gratuitous singularities? Did I do so twenty years ago? Not anyway this kind of oddity! I worked at sermon all the morning; walked with Ernest after lunch: and after tea attended a meeting of my Lodge in the Masonic Hall. The mummeries were wonderful, and the business practically nil. Then I wrote to Mrs Toland.
