The snow has now shrunken to a few patches in the borders of the garden, where the sun come least. I received the Holy Commn at 8 a.m. The Bishop of Jarrow was celebrant. The morning was given up to Warburton, of which half is now written, very poor stuff! After lunch I walked with Ernest around Houghall Wood. I attended Evensong. Cruickshank came to see me about some work he wishes to get done in the cathedral. I counselled postponement. After dinner I read 'Pendennis' aloud to my family.
