291st day

Macartney came to see me, & to explain his proposals for dealing with the work at the Cathedral. We took Fawkes with us to lunch with the Archdeacon. Then I attended Evensong: & afterwards presided at a little meeting of the Cosin's Almshouses Trustees. Then Fawkes and I walked around Houghall Wood, where the blue–bells are most beautiful. In the evening lights the scene was ravishingly fair. Finally, Macartney dined here: and Linetta arrived by the late train.
