277th day

Another bright, warm, & rather languorous morning. The paper reports a thunderstorm of great violence in London yesterday. Knowling & Wright, the new vicar of Ancroft, lunched with me. The latter seems to be comparatively an intelligent man. I attended Evensong and afterwards walked through the woods to look at the bluebells. They make a beautiful picture. The Abp's 'Statement' about Kikuyu seems to have waked sentiment in the "Catholic" camp. This indicated much ingratitude, & some stupidity. The evening paper reports the sinking of the "Lusitania" this afternoon. A torpedo attacked the famous liner, but where is not stated.
