A wintry aspect, with snow still falling. But the day reversed the precedent of yesterday, & developed finely. Mary & I walked to the golf course, & through Houghall Wood, admiring the views of the country and the cathedral, & trampling resolutely through snow which in some places went to the knee.

My letter anent Sir Edward Clarke's proposal appeared on the front page of the "Times", where it filled more than a column. I received a telegram from the Editor of the 'Literary Supplement' in these terms: – "Could you send review thousand words of Wasson's Book for next L.S. or would you lend us your copy for five days". I sent the book.
