There are apparently six nests in the only tree which the Rooks have condescended to inhabit. Welldon went off by the early train. I worked rather helplessly at the Article. In the afternoon I took Knowling for a drive, & then attended Evensong. Then I wrote a series of letters including a difficult letter of advice to Miss S., letters to Caröe, & Gerald, & some business letters.
