204th day

Bright frosty morning. Captain Rowlandson came to tea: he carries his left arm in a sling, & is still far from recovery. Shrapnel is a nasty thing. He is not very communicative, but what he says is on the whole encouraging. I received letters from Elsie & Harold together with a photograph of the latter: & I wrote to them both, also to Olaf Caröe. Snow fell about tea–time, not in any considerable quantity.
