112th day

My morning was frittered away. I arranged with the Precentor for the Parade Service next Sunday at 10 a.m. Then Bailey came to see me about some chapter business. I wired to Canon Martin at Stockton 'crying off' my engagement to preside at a meeting for the Seamen's Mission. I attended Evensong in the Cathedral. The evening post brought me a long letter from Charlie Cunninghame, asking me whether I thought he would be right in becoming a Papist in spite of some insurmountable scruples! I replied at some length.
