43rd day

Rogerson fetched me in his car, & carried me to Waterhouses. Hills, the member, also went with us. The rain came on just about 6 p.m. when the meeting was announced to be held, so we held it under cover of a music hall. There was a crowded assembly of miners mostly young men, just the type for recruiting: but they seemed to lack enthusiasm, & I doubt if our exhortations had much effect.

I read Roland Usher's "Pan–Germanism". It is interesting, and acute, but, perhaps more positive than the author's knowledge warrants. His statement that the United States is part of a coalition with the powers of the 'Entente' is probably apocryphal.
