A dull grey morning, answering to a certain depression of one's spirits. The news from the war appears to be re–assuring. There are even statements (but not official) of a victory of the Allies near Paris.

I had some talk with Bishop Quirk, who expressed his willingness to accept the Treasurership. We looked at the new House, & called on Budworth, who says that he has already enrolled 70 Public School & University men.

Headlam called on me, & asked me to write him an article on Christianity & War for the Church Quarterly Review. I promised to do so, & to let him have MS. by the end of the month.
