Monday in Holy Week, April 6th, 1914.
I left Durham at 8.20 a.m., and travelled to Leicester arriving at 2.5 [sic] p.m. I was met at the station by Canon Nance & the Secretary of the Missionary Exhibition. There was a very large gathering in the De Montfort Hall. The Mayor was in the chair, & introduced me very flatterously. Then I spoke for about 35 minutes, & was much applauded.Dr Grenfell of Labrador sate beside me on the platform. He looked weary & wizened. The secretary took me off & gave me tea. Then he escorted me to the station, where I caught the 5 p.m. train to Durham, & travelled by way of Nottingham, Leeds, & York, arriving at 10.26 p.m. Cummings met me with the car.

Mary Scott arrived on Wednesday morning (April 8th), and Reichel on Thursday afternoon (April 9th).
On Wednesday we motored to Blanchland, and there were entertained at lunch by the Archdeacon and Bayley, who were there on "Crewe Trustees'" Business. We returned to Durham in time for the service in the Cathedral at 6.30 p.m. The car registered a distance of 58 miles.
On Thursday, the post brought me a copy of Gore's "Open Letter" to his clergy on "The basis of Anglican Fellowship", which the "Church Times" describes as 'epoch–making'.
