Palm Sunday, April 5th, 1914.
A blustering comfortless day with violent irrelevant showers, & gleams of deceiving sunshine.
I attended Litany & Holy Communion at 8 a.m. when Knowling celebrated. At Mattins he preached an admirable little sermon from S. Paul's words: "The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ".
In the afternoon Canon Rawnsley preached for the Bible Society.
After the service Ella & I motored to Bishopwearmouth, where I preached to a large congregation in the parish church from the text: "Godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance that bringeth no regret: but the sorrow of the world worketh death". We had supper with Canon Goldsmith, & then motored back to Durham.
