Friday, March 20th, 1914.

Caröe went back to London by the early train.

The papers report a Government majority of 93 on the Vote of Censure. Carson, after a speech of dramatic vehemence, left the House, & went directly to Ulster!

The Police here sent to ask permission to post notices of Mobilisation on the cathedral doors! I suspect that all this parade of adamantine firmness is intended to pave the way for a General Election.

I sent Harold his quarterly allowance.

Very affectionate letters came to me from Reggie Still, Colin Kennedy, & Reggie Woodyear.
