The statutory "General Chapter" was held in the Chapter House at 5 p.m. We were all present, sitting in our robes. We began by calling over names: inspecting plate & keys: electing officers. Watkins was chosen again to be Sub–dean: Nickson to be Treasurer: and Knowling Receiver. These are the statutory offices. Then we elected Culley to be precentor & organist: & Dolphin to be Sacrist: also Hughes to be Librarian.

Then, the "General Chapter" being concluded, we went on to the annual audit. Here Nickson was at some pains to explain an alarming increase in the amount of grants, subscriptions, & alms. We are evidently spending an excessive amount on the Choir–school. Nearly £1700 for a school of 20 boys and rent–free must be exorbitant.
