Preachers are like unskilled doctors with the same pill & draught for every complaint. They do not know where the fatal spot lies on lung or heart or nerve which robs us of life.

I spent the morning in preparing a sermon for next Sunday when the Mayor & Corporation are to come to the Cathedral.
The papers report the release from prison of the egregious Larkin, & his own speeches thereupon. With remarkable insight he told his sympathizers that the Government had made a mistake in putting him in prison, but a much greater one in letting him out! He breathes unimaginable things beginning with a general strike throughout the islands! Events are moving very quickly. At the present pace we may have blood–letting before Christmas.
