Friday, October 17th, 1913.

I wrote a sermon on "Temperance" for use in the Cathedral on 26th inst.

After lunch I attended a meeting of the Sherburn Trustees. Then I called for Tucker & walked with him for an hour.

Gee came to see me. He would know whether I thought we should take steps to get the King to visit Durham, when he visits Lord Durham next month. I said that in my opinion we ought to wait to be asked. He speaks with some feeling of the jealousy with which University College is regarded by the rest of the academic body. He asked whether I would be elected a member of the College, & to this I assented not unwillingly, as it wd give me rights of battelling in Hall, & taking guests there.

Lamadie came & wrote letters after dinner.
