A letter from Ethel Gore Booth to Ella announces the death of the Colonel her father. His illness was so painful & so hopeless that the end must needs be felt as a relief. I wrote a letter of condolence to his widow.

I dined with the Universities' Lodge of Freemasons in the County Hotel. The Worshipful Master was Dr Smith. I sate between him & Sir George Philipson. On the other side of the Chair was Rogerson.

My wife held a drawing room meeting for the Mothers' Union: & afterwards presided at a meeting in the Town Hall.
